My internal filter doesn't bubble like my under gravel - should it?

It is Chinese with no manual and the website is all in Chinese (brand and model -HaiYang - HY202F).
I can hear the motor running but can't see any bubbles or air flow in the tank- should I be able to? Or don't you see any bubbles.

Those sort of filters work by pumping water through the filter media and letting it pour back into the tank.
